These days, I’m a retired Safety Professional. I also retired from the Air Force more than 39 years ago after 20+ years of great experiences.
My interest in the Safety profession began when I joined a startup semi-conductor company in 1984. As it turned out, I was the only one who had any experience with OSHA or EPA in the new company, so guess what one of my management duties was. I spent a lot of time at the Stanford University research library, learning about my new responsibilities.
It was the beginning of a successful 36 year career that included developing and managing safety and environmental programs for general industry, mining, transportation and construction.
In 1998, I was listed in Who’s Who of Professional Management and was awarded the designation of Certified Hazard Control Manager by the International Board of Certification For Certification Services And Management in 2001.
As a professional in the military and safety, I was proud to sponsor and mentor many people who went on to become industry professionals in their own right. I believe that everyone has a responsibility to help the next generation of professionals in their industry.
I retired again in 2009 when the depression of 2008 wiped out a lot of the construction projects and obtained my OSHA 500 trainer credentials. That retirement lasted about four months when I started getting phone calls from companies looking for a part-time safety professional for specific projects. I continued working as a part-timer for about nine years.
One of my undying interests has been writing. I’ve never been accused of not having an opinion or not being willing to share it. The internet has made it easy to pursue this interest. I’ve self published three e-books and written and published hundreds of articles on various platforms on many subjects.
In 58 years, I retired from the military, held a real estate license, worked in the semi-conductor industry and became a certified financial planner. I also developed an interest in computers and computer programming. Along the way, I learned how to make money, but it took a lot longer to learn how to effectively save money.
This website came from my interest in writing and sharing information especially about retirement. One of the issues I had when I considered my second retirement was the lack of information for folks who didn’t have a lot of money stashed away. I had a marketable skill and I continued to work on a part time basis or as an independent contractor, but many people don’t, or they think they don’t and worry a lot about running out of money.
I’ve talked with many potential retirees who had questions similar to mine. Do I have enough money to retire on? What will I do when I retire? Some had a desire not to work any more, but most were just confused.
This website came from my interest in writing and sharing information. I realized that most retirees had questions, but few places to get information they could use. I wanted to help.
